I never used to bother that much with the BMW supplied disks, but used one direct from VDO. It was a much better program, easier to find where you wanted to get to. Also perversely the VDO one had the "locator points" visible on the map where the dead reconer could zero itself, very useful if the system got lost in a built up area. Just better quality, for example the whole of Denmark, Sweden and major roads of Europe on one CD, whereas the BMW had a disk for Denmark, another for Sweden and another for major roads, utter pain as you had to swop them by hand and remember to carry all the disks (and buy two sets leaving a major roads disk you didn't need).
You used to be able to buy the VDO ones in the BMW dealers, but I think BMW stopped them doing that as well. They were cheaper and helluva lot better. You can still get them from the VDO shop though.
Also the birds voice on the BMW one was some Essex gal, really annoying, the VDO one was sweeter, makes a big big difference if you're lost I can tell you.
