"So that come re-election time they can wax on about 'X years of continuous growth'"

That is utter bolloxs! A party is in for a 5 year max term. So Maggie got in and 'made' the country go into recession. How long did the 80's recession last? A lot longer than her first term. So did she get to talk about x years worth of growth? No, the Tories back then were fixing the crock of sh1t which they got from Old Labour. The problem is, because New Labour have thrown away the economy they took over, the whole thing is going to have to be done again. this time it will not be the nationalised industries, but our bloated public sector which will have to be trimmed back.

NL had a golden opportunity to do something for the good of this nation. They were voted in with a massive amount of support, had money in the bank to do whatever they wanted. What did they do? For the bulk of their first term, absolutely nothing! They stuck to the Tories spending commitments to build up a huge wad of cash and then blew the lot on dropping it into our public sector black hole.

It's great bringing the finest minds together to thrash these things out don't you think?

The advantage of doing this stuff in a pub is that you can excuse people talking bollox because of the drink they've consumed.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

Because their whole reason for being is to apply the kind of ideals that are unlikely to work anywhere outside of a Kibbutz. Socialism does not work but they believe in a world that is 'fair' for all and will quite happily destroy it in their efforts to succeed

My point is that this country isn't the tuliphole that you lot constantly claim it to be.

The trouble is that most of you can't see any further than the amount of tax you pay and have spent the last five years praying for a crash that has STILL TO HAPPEN.

            More fool you.

I'm happy with my lot in life, and made even happier by listening to miserable moaners like yourselves.

The grey squirrels are in the majority and therefore deserve no special protection.

I don't claim that either. I just think it can be a whole lot better and that it is those in charge who are preventing it from being better by constantly pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Economically? Look at national and personal debt.

If I had been borrowing more and more over the past five years to maintain a stable standard of living, I'd say something was wrong, wouldn't you?

Yes, I guess the mayor Nagasaki wasn't too concerned about the effects of a hydrogen bomb, on August 5th, 1945 anyway.
                      Why not?
