I have decided to buy a second car budget £8-9k, 6-7 years old and am looking at a Merc C class.
?

6 or 7 year old Merc means it was built 2004/2005, when Merc had all their quality control issues.
These were not really solved till after 2006 onwards.
Avoid any Merc built when Merc still had Chrysler.
