Not quite 1960's, but if you want "gritty" then this is unbeatable...

    Get Carter
    (1971 according to Wikipedia)

As for classic 1960's films, lastnight I watched:

Dr Strangelove (Or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb)
    Bwana

      - The Thomas Crown Affair

Personally, prefer the movies of the 70's.

Battle of Britain - Great cast and plenty of flying scenes.

Plus loads of the other suggestions above are excellent. Dr Strangelove is a particular favourite of mine.

Edit: How could I forget Carry On Up The Khyber.

Off the top of my head:

                      Zulu

                      Zulu Dawn

                      Khartoum

                      A Night to Remember

                      The Italian Job

                      Sink the Bismarck

The Charge of the Light Brigade

Waterloo (hmm, may be early '70s)

Theatre of Blood (Vincent Price at his best) (may also be '70s)

                      Funeral in Berlin

                      The Quiller Memorandum

                      The Odessa File

                      The Ipcress File

                      The Eiger Sanction

                      The Longest Day

                      Colditz

                      Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

Bottoms Up (A Jimmy Edwards comedy)

                      Make Mine Mink

                      Too Many Crooks

                      Two Way Stretch

                      The Ladykillers

I can't be arsed to make these all IMDB links because (a) they're easy to look up on IMDB and (b) my system is running slow because I'm downloading a couple of new films
