Feck, feckity feck, my camera battery was flat. But I made a pot of tea and thoroughly enjoyed the show from the balcony*. I haven't seen anything quite like it since.
* this was in January, so it was nippy out there, but well worth it.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment

Santa brought me a new compact camera which I am now getting acquainted with. I specifically didn't want a full size SLR (well I did really, but you can't slip one in your pocket). It is unbelievably better than the 8 year old one, and was a third of the price. Image stabilizer, long range zoom and manual mode, plus the ability to shoot HD movies are what grabbed my attention with this model. An external flash is available too.
I definitely need a longer tripod. I have one of those short ones (which again will fit in a jacket pocket), but unless there's a convenient wall handy it's a bit useless.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment
