My Direct Line renewal went up by £100 this year, to over £500 for a crappy car. I have full NCB and no points, and live in the sticks. I park off road but not outside my house and not in a secure garage.

I used GoCompare to find a quote that was about half that cost, from these folks:
Caravan Insurance UK - Static and Touring Caravan Insurance Quotes.

I was disappointed that Direct Line didn't try to retain my business my improving their quotation.

I know a few Actuaries and apparently "crash for cash" is now a big driver of car insurance premiums. They're always coming up with "innovations" like using your postcode to work out what the premium loading for certain risks, not surprised they've started doing it for deliberate RTA fraud.

I suggest you move somewhere less pikey.

BTW a word of advice for motorists (esp. in Birmingham apparently) - be careful when someone appears to flash their headlights to allow you out of a side road. This is a known tactic of crash for cash-ers, they'll flash their lights and then drive into you. The insurance will deem you to be at fault, as there's no proof they flashed their lights.

I'd move to Glasgow but I am not sure I'd understand the language

You must have fallen out of or they've changed their target demographic?

For 10 years straight I've found Direct Line to be the cheapest, their renewal never includes the 10% newcomers discount so I just do a new online quote and tell them I'd rather have that.

On the one occasion I found it cheaper on a comparison site the standard excess was astronomical.

For this role down south I bought a cheap car to get me from where I stay to the train station. I went to insure it - as I now have 2 cars, I found I couldn't use my NCD on the second one. Something I feel is somewhat unfair - I can only drive 1 at once and if I had an accident, no doubt I'd have to declare it on both policies! To cover this v reg pug 206 which cost me £400 off my cousin, at my address, the cheapest I could get was over £800 with zero NCD. As the car is staying down south I put my mates postcode in as the details as to where the car will be kept. The quote came in at £246.

When I look for insurance I use Quidco. I get about a quid for using Quidco to take me to the price comparison sites. I then use them to find me the best quote and use Quidco to take me directly to the insurers site so that I can earn the cashback on the policy rather than the comparison site getting the refferal fee.

My wife was with Kwik-Fit insurance. Last year they sent their renewal which was about 470 or so. This was a little more than the previous year. She pays monthly and the apr the robbing gets had on her policy was over 50%.

Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

            I preferred version 1!

              Direct Line if you're wondering.
              One year on...

Jeez, last year's is looking expensive now. Only £177 this year, down £25 or 12%. It's going down every year. I'm not even going to look for another quote again. I'm still with Direct Line.

Is Brum loading now as high as Bradford?
Can't think of any reasons why these places should have such high rates attached
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

                  10% increase on last year.

Though to be fair I had misfortune today to get caught into BCFC ending game and people walked on the road with complete disregard to their own safety. The police closed main road around there and took like 50 mins to get 1 mile to office
