Have you paid your corporation tax for the year yet?

The main step you can take is not being picky about what contracts you pitch for, or about your next rate. Right now I'm benched and only looking for contracts in my usual sector, at my last rate, in my town, but that's because my cash reserve stretches out into the distance. After my first contract I was exactly in your position, and was going for pretty much anything I could do, anywhere in Britain, for anything over £15/hour.

The other thing you must do is walk the floors at your current client making it patently obvious you're going to be available soon, in case anyone in another department wants to take advantage of your inside knowledge.

the first thing that sprang to mind was simple. stop spending now.
economise like a loon, beans on toast, walk to the shops, stop the ale...now. let the missus know how serious it is

and good luck getting a new contract

I am assuming you mean 2009-2010 for which I only have £800 to pay (I only had income for March-April by the time the money had arrived)

For 2010-2011 I have set it aside and have another few 1000 spare. Also have a few 1000 spare in my own personal account and ISA.
