I got mine along Shimano's reasoning. I can't say for sure it's ever made the difference, but I suspect it's helped a couple of times. Costs about £500 to get through, so if there's a 10% chance it gets you a £50,000 contract it's probably worth doing.

MCSD .Net - C# track. Mostly paid for while in permiedome for a brief period... seems to get me noticed. I dont have a degree (and after this long it would be irrelevant anyway) so I make a get of doing the certs.

Just making myself depressed looking at the number of .NET jobs on jobserve today (187) vs. the number of MFC jobs (12). Might be time to do some learning.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Any decent .Net role will typically be looking for 3 years+ (normally c# but some finance companies are going the VB.Net route), by now... go for .Net 2 if you are going to try.

I wrote a VB.net application to do my ironing every morning. See, there's no end to the wondrousness of .net.

Generally we know cert's mean nothing except the person can possible cram and pass some tests

Agencys and clients on the other hand.....

So if you can do it without going on expensive training courses, go for it. £500 odd is small price to pay any type of possible improvement in getting contracts.
