'Streets of London' has to be one of the very few examples of a cover version being better than the original. Brilliant stuff! -
Having spent a bit of time in London recently, I have to say that the lyrics of that song have dated quite shockingly:Originally posted by wobbegong View Post'Streets of London' has to be one of the very few examples of a cover version being better than the original. Brilliant stuff!
NopeHave you seen the old man
In the closed down market
Kicking up the papers,
with his worn out shoes?
NopeHave you seen the old girl
Who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags
Not neitherHave you seen the old man
Outside the Seamen's Mission
Memory fading with the medal ribbons that he wears
And the chorus doesn't work any more:
If you take me by the hand and lead me through the streets of London, I'll just get even more depressed at how blatantly loaded everyone else seems to be. Makes Loadsamoney look like a total lightweight. So how can you tell me you're lonely,
and say for you that the sun don't shine,
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind.Comment

Yes, but doing an external lap of Harrods hardly counts does it?“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”Comment
