Possibly in the UK; here in NL I've had a lot of positive response to it.

That may not be as big an issue these days, with the degree inflation that's been going on. Though an arts degree from Oxbridge probably beats a science degree from any other UK institution.

I just don't get why people want to do a degree at this age. I am sure most of us here could lecture at a far far higher standard on CS than most Uni's CS lecturers.

Professional qualifications might be better if it's work related; a degree is perhaps better for intellectual development.
