Indeed. What irks me most about the ban (I don't smoke) is the smugness of the assertion that it will be good for health. We are doing it to protect you from yourself.
And the extra argument that it protects bar staff from being harmed by other people's actions: a problem not faced by workers in the House of Commons bar apparently.
Its all about "fairness"
You should know by now that zanuNL are all about spin, lies, obfuscation and increasing amounts of "Do as we say not as we do"
If you're talking about the banned narcotics, stimulants etc. which are classified by the government, then yes. At least they should be de-criminalised.
What business of the government's is it what people do?
Fair enough. Equally there's no logic in banning smoking but not alcohol. I wonder if that's next.

Well now we have beaten the smokers we'll complete getting dirty, alcohol fume engulfed drinkers out. Who wants to go home stinking of beer, wine and whisky or worse still have to smell their dirty breaths.
Having classified 4 units of alcohol, or 2 pints, as 'binge drinking' and 'bad for health' we will be getting the health warnings stamped on the glasses next.
Shouldn't take too long before they're out and we can go into a pub and enjoy a nice glass of demineralised water with our salad.
Better get rid of those murdering bastard meat-eaters first though, they reek of blood and make me want to vomit when they blast the stench of death at me from their blood-stained mouths.
What we REALLY need to ban from pubs is fecking coffee machines!!!!
At our local wetherspoons you can scarcely get to the bar for dothering old crinklies queueing up for frothy pish! Its not as if there are not enough cafes scattered around these days!
BAH!!!!
“The period of the disintegration of the European Union has begun. And the first vessel to have departed is Britain”
Do those who are against the government ban on smoking also advocate that the govt. should legalise all drugs? It's the only logical poistion to take.
For registered addicts, and under some form of supervision, yes. If so much crime is drug-related (as seems to be the general assertion with regard to mugging, burglary etc) then why not?
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

They'll be banning gobby ex-squaddies next, with any luck.

No chance Mordy. That would not be "fair".
Besides, someone has to inject some fresh air into the proceedings on here.
Are you getting used to the idea of Tottenham finishing above the Arse this season yet?

Quite probably not all, but if you were capable of digesting all of my original statement you would have seen that I was simply pointing out that the huge loss in tax take originally quoted by the foul-smelling disingenuous addicts was nowhere near as large as they would like people to believe.
Ok, that is a fairly valid point. But if the money is spent elsewhere it will not all go int tax.
Assume that the entire amount goes into consumption of goods/services instead of fags. Further assume that the average margin on these is 25%. Then the governement will see approimatexly 30% of the spending.
So, yes, the 10.5 bln gap becomes about 7 is it is all spend on an average basket of goods and services.
