At least Labour <spit> included ICTs in their immigration figures* While Dave meets his targets by excluding, and probably increasing, them. Is that not dishonest? I've been looking for references to the EU-India trade agreement, the one in which we are to take on an additional many 10s of thousands more Indians than the rest of Europe, but I can't find it at present. Or at least not solid numbers. Was it 40,000 or so?

But did Labour ever say they were going to support IT contractors, or write to us to say that? I don't think they did?

He's sold us out to big business re the ICT scandal in allowing an unlimited number to transfer here under the pretext of a £24K minimum salary, excluding these from the immigration figures, and sold us out on his recent trip to India in the greater numbers that will be allowed in, having negotiated with Europe for a far greater number than any other EU country too.

What's wrong with letting unlimited numbers of immigrants in if they want to work and as long as they don't come here to claim benefits? If they can get the job done at a fifth of the price then of course they should be allowed to do this.
It should be for the customers, our clients, to choose who to hire, based on the customer's own perceptions and opinions of our or their abilities, not us or the government.
Saying they can't makes us just as bad as the socialists.

I'd prefer they come here to be paid benefits than take jobs, and they probably are on benefits indirectly. They don't pay taxes and do receive other tax free benefits I gather.

The following isn't what I was looking for, but here's something on NI contributions:-

Foreign employer sending employee to UK

National Insurance contributions are not payable for the first 52 weeks starting from the first Sunday after the employee arrives in the UK for an employee:

* not normally living or working in the UK
* who has been sent to work here temporarily by an overseas employer and
* the employer has a place of business outside the UK even if the employer also has a place of business in the UK and
* the employee continues to work for the overseas employer

The average salary paid to Indian programmer is around £8k pa (Equivalent to 0.5 - 0.6 m in Indian Rupees). The linky says the company does not have to pay NI contribution as long as the employee is here for less than 52 weeks (1 yr).

What a business can do here is hire a team of developer in India, pay them 0.6 m Indian Rupees, bring them here for a year in small batch. Rent out a house in suburbs and house them. In all this would probably cost the company £15k PA per person, which is not cheaper than average graduate programmer.

The main reason why Indian IT professionals are sought after in USA atleast is not their cost or knowledge, but their attitude. Working from 8.30 to 21.00 is accepted standard for average Indian worker. I dont see any UK permie/contractor working these hours in that salary....
