Mind you, I was only a kid, in pajamas, with a cup of hot tomato soup.

I think it was on about 8pm on a Friday.

I remember it well first time around and have been watching it, it's as good as it was.

I remember playing the board game called Colditz or Escape from Colditz.

I remember that - Shame they never got to try that glider in the end.

          The 'Colditz Cock'.

I wonder if it would have actually flown.

Can't fault those chaps for effort and imagination though.

I wonder what today's troops would do.

Pretty sure I've seen a few episodes as a kid, though even that would have been repeats I imagine.

            I still prefer Das Boot.

I have enough trouble wondering what the world will be like in 10 years, let alone a generation or two.

              10 years ago:
Personal computers still not mass market, let alone smartphones
Mobile phones still bulky and not yet mass market?
People still using cassette tape in 'video recorders'
Not many people on-line, using email etc, let alone networking socially (save academia and nerds). No Wiki. Google only two years old? and still not no.1 search engine?
Cameras still used film for the most part

              10 years time:
              ????
Some development along the lines of smartphones and smartpads that do anything/everything? Or perhaps thin film displays of any size?
              More 3D and interactive TV?
Demise of the desktop PC as we know it?
Much more use of the web and networking in unknown ways?

Okay, who remembers this theme tune:

Not quite as (good as) I remember it, but that might be because what I hear now is more faithfully reproduced.

Yeah, I can remember that theme music. NOT gonna listen as it will spoil the memories, that music appealed to me as a seven year old but probably not now.

The Das Boot soundtrack is available from the iTunes Store, though not the film itself, sadly.

Apart from the opening and closing titles, Colditz had no incidental music at all. This sounds odd now, but actually you don't miss it. The absence of music just seems to enhance the tension and the drama.
