The reason I liked IT in the first place was that there was always something new to learn. Even when I got stuck on one platform in pre-internet days, there were plenty of dark corners of the manuals to read and experiment with. In years gone by I'd read while end of day processing and backups were churning, not to forget the times engineers were trying to get the hardware working

I definitely learn better from dead tree books and manuals than staring at a screen.
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

Most of my practical knowledge I learn on the job. But I recently decided to get a degree to aid living abroad permanatly (outside EU) so I spend all my commuting time on the train (2 hours on the train) + a few hours over the weekend. Probably 10-15 hours a week, max. And I'm a fast learner so I'm blitzing it tbf.

23 months ago, I started my first ever job in IT, and I've already been contracting for five months, so I must learn fairly quickly.
