If you've been on here for 5 years you get an understanding of people and their lives/lifestyles.
My guess is that very few on here have squirrelled away that much, many spending what they earn in the expectation that their rates would continue unchanged.
Could be wrong and we're all millionaires, of course.
I hope that the more inhumane amongst you never find yourselves in circumstances that are not of your own making only to find yourselves reliant on people like your past selves for some compassion.
You're all one step away from the poor house yourselves, I hope for your sakes that you never find this out.
I'll leave you to your fantasy land, it wouldn't be kind to explain it all to you, you're happier believing what you have you deserve.
Enjoy pssing about on cuk at your clients expense, having a go at all these freeloaders.
EEWWwww get her!!!
I can't see anywhere where people are saying that all the unemployed should be forced into doing a bit of work for their benefits. However if you are able bodied and have been off work for over 12 months then simply adjusting to being in work will be difficult. Also there is a large chunk of those classed as long term unemployed who work in the black economy to add to their benefits with cash in hand work. Making this lot put in 30 hours a week will clamp down on that abuse and make their current situation less affordable.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.
It is down to the fact that most of the cabinet are that disconnected from the real world by virtue of their (mostly inherited) wealth that they buy into this Daily Mail stereotype of the long term work shy dosser in his five bedroomed mansion (that WE pay for hurrumph!) surrounded by X-boxes and Sky 3D TV.
The reality is that most long term unemployed people are victims of circumstance. Take, for example, a widowed mother of young children. She's going to struggle unless she has some pretty top end skills. How is it going to help her by threatening to take food out of her kids mouths if she doesn't go and pick litter up for 30 hours a week.
I'm sure there are people taking the p1ss and claiming for all sorts whilst doing cash in hand work as well. Investigate and catch them out by all means but don't come up with stupid policy ideas like this that are clearly unworkable and unreasonable and demonstrate the fact that you haven't got the first clue what the problem is, yet you are making loud noises about the solution.
Well, that's the biggest objection I have to this plan. You can be sure that the professional dodgy scrounger will be well ahead of the game, and will run rings around the "civil servants" employed to supervise the "dig a hole and then fill it in again" scheme - thus that extra public expenditure will end in naught. Not sure there's an answer tho. Perhaps we should build new towns up north with great schools, training facilities etc. but a total lack of pubs or any outlets selling booze, tobacco etc. If you show no inclination to look for work after a year or two, then you're sent to live there. No need to threaten lack of benefits, no need to starve the kids. Just you won't ever get the chance for a beer or smoke again, until you work.

Well it depends doesn't it. If you're employed by your own Ltd and sign on at the same time this is basically illegal, unless you stop taking a salary in which case it is at the very least extremely sneaky.
If you work through an umbrella then you ARE genuinely unemployed outside a contract, aren't you?
I think SY01 is genuinely confusing me with RC (quite a compliment to me) because it was he posting a couple of weeks back about this, and he also admitted he used an umbrella.. As indeed do I ( I know, I know).. and considering the amount of tax I pay, I don't see anything wrong in claiming some of it back if I'm ever on the bench again for long enough. Same as the oap pension - if I manage to make it that long, I'll certainly take what I'm entitled to. Paid enough in....

Bit of a misquote there, you merged me with some of d000ghies comment.

That was deliberate - it was a reply of his to your point - I was trying to kill two birds with one stone (if a little inelegantly). The point stands though - you seemed aggrieved that I'd been talking about claiming dole a couple of weeks ago after just finishing a contract. It wasn't me who'd done this (I've been in contract the last few weeks) - it was, I think, RC, and besides which if you're paid via an umbrella co it's all perfectly legit.
