And a plan B is safe? Anything in IT, you risk Google unveiling a free version.

Proper Plan B helps you improve yourself and also think like a proper business, not employee in disguise who uses his Ltd in order to minimize tax.

It is very difficult to start of coding and end up being a senior manager as a contractor, not impossible but not as easy. I certainly would not have been happy if I had left early and used techie skills for the rest of my life cause I thought I could be better so did the career monkey thing until I reached my ceiling and then went contracting at that level. If you want to just get coding experience and then leave then fine but you won't know what you could have become over the years.

Agreed now we are out it seems pointless but it was a good way to achieve the best we could be. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for permiedom so can't knock it really.
I've had more career progression and gained more experience as a contractor than I would have as a permie, not all companies are willing to help their employees "up the ladder" and sometimes you have to get out there and do things for yourself.

It is nice to have to company pay it for you, but if they aint going to stump up the cash then there is no point in staying on.

Plan B is the only way forward - neither perm jobs nor contracting are remotely safe, ultimately if you just have a handful of customers who can choose someone else for whatever reason then you are taking big gambles that soon or later will cost you.

So talk less and work more on Plan B.
I'll punch you in a minute.

You are now mixing up contractors and entrepeneurs. Contractors have a more devil may care approach to work and are therefore bigger risk takers. They all dream of plan B's but the majority will only create a low passive income.

AtW. You were never a contractor I've read your CV remember! ;-)

You are in that rare third tier which requires a certain level of belief, beligerence, arrogance and risk. You have some of those in abundance.

It's outdated - I did a short contract gig in Bristol 4 years ago. Search for Xpath/XSLT in Technical and you'll read the details

I bet you prefer being able to punch someone and get away with it skill?

How does that make your income safer? It's sweet that you still think of SKA as your plan B.

As part of proper business that deals with many customers you will get to know them, their businesses and if you do good enough job then, even if your Plan B fails, then you'll have better job hunting opportunities than being one of the million CVs that go into bin.

As I said, you're not a contractor AtW. Never have been. You couldn't cut the mustard.
