    Bubbya wants more money for...

    ..guns of course!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4686684.stm

"President George W Bush has proposed a $2,770bn (£1,600bn) annual budget, with more money to fight terrorism, but less for many social areas."

    Nearly 7% for 'defense':

"Mr Bush is seeking a 6.9% hike in US military spending to $439.3bn, and a 3.3% rise in homeland security funds."

In my opinion 7% is quite a hike. Shouldn't the process of scaling down operations in Afganistan (late 2001, over four years ago) and Iraq (Spring 2003, three years ago) have started?

Thats 439,300,000,000/250,000,000 = $1757 pa for every American (even the kids and infirm)!! + neglects the figure for 'homeland security'

Obviously they can't afford it - hence the debt.

Now you know why the Good Ole USA has the worlds largest national debt and must ensure that Oil is traded in dollars.

Btw, did Mailman get it in the end?

So long as the petrodollar is the global trading commodity , Debt does not matter.

No surprise that the millitary industrial bonanza goes on.

Remember that by its own admission, the US is an Oil addict , you know the desperate violent measures junkies will take to get their fix.

I looked some more into this - in a school maths kind of way - and came up with these figures:

        [Figures are per annum]

Total US Federal budget (demanded by Bush) Source: BBC
        $2,770bn

In 2004 "Median household income was $44,389" Source: US Census: http://www.census.gov/prod/2005pubs/p60-229.pdf (and it hasn't changed much since 2004)

        $44,389

        Number of households is :
        Source: US Census

        113,146,000

Therefore each household must pay to service Federal budget:

        $2,770,000,000,000/113,146,000=$24,482

        OR

        55% tax.

        Caveats:
Does the $2,770bn include servicing existing debt?
Figures do not include State taxes - only Federal ones.

You are forgetting that a) this figure takes income tax into account (I presume) and b) a significant part of the federal budget comes from corporation tax and VAT.
