Wonderful. I start a serious discussion about the England Footie team and it ends up with CUK members calling each other poofters. Marvellous.

To be honest, if they paid me just one week's money at 100K I'd be very happy to turn out for 90 minutes - in a pink frock if necessary.

Who knows, I'm just stating a fact - English players are very good during the season (hence the overblown expectations), but then fade for the international tournaments.

Perhaps our uniquely non-stop, helter-skelter domestic game knackers them, and always has done. Not many of the foreign stars playing in the Premier League did well in the world cup either. Spain got by largely without Torres and Fabrigas.

        I think there's a big clue in 1992.
