Are you referring to the ubiquitous media frenzy that erupts convincing the players that they are so fooking brilliant they only need to turn up?
Or do you mean the business end of the season at which point most of the trophies are decided upon?
If it is the latter, does that particular event not coincide with leagues all across the globe?
Who knows, I'm just stating a fact - English players are very good during the season (hence the overblown expectations), but then fade for the international tournaments.
Perhaps our uniquely non-stop, helter-skelter domestic game knackers them, and always has done. Not many of the foreign stars playing in the Premier League did well in the world cup either. Spain got by largely without Torres and Fabrigas.
