Just out of curiosity Troll, and not say that you're not right but don't all of the berries etc come from the previous cold winter/warm spring/wet summer?

I waiting for the PWS forecast for this winter.

We're nowhere near needing the heating here; in fact MadPartner keeps the windows open as she's so warm most of the time. There again, it's probably the heat island effect of London.

Those of you who have met me, know that I am quite well insulated, but finally gave into nagging from Mrs SM and Miss SM last night and let them put a extra jumper on. :-)

Nearly succumbed when I got up yesterday. Found a warm rugby shirt instead of a short sleeved shirt. Jumpers still in the wardrobe..

Fecking useless British boilers...came downstairs this morning to find the utility room awash with central heating fluid ... yup the heat exchangers cracked again (same thing happened 5 years ago) rang Baxi who do a fixed price fix on boilers -£289 but after describing the symptoms to the Doris on the phone it seemed likely that the engineer would turn up and condemn the boiler due to its age... and charge me £90 for the privilege of doing so!

The cost of the part is £290 which I can get down for tomorrow & fit when I get home, but annoyingly I had the boiler down for replacement with a German built Viessmann jobbie – but cannot get this fitted for a few weeks (could DIY fit but the gas connection is the worry)– so it’s going to be £300 wasted when the boiler is replaced.

I also found out during talking to Baxi that the previous owners were known to them…. for a heat exchanger replacement so 3 heat exchangers in 12 years suggests a design fault!

Tip – buy a boiler with a stainless steel HE rather than cast iron

7 degrees forecast as the overnight low. Do I crack and put the heating on?
2 degrees forecast for Saturday night so that is a no brainer, but what is the cut off point? 6 degrees? 7?

Still not got the heating on, mainly because I don't know where it is.
