If you attend certain schools and/or universities, it is remarkable if you don't bump into current or future M15/MI6 folk. Add to that the fact that I come from a family with a strong RAF tradition and growing up I had many friends with RAF families. Add to that the fact that my father used to be involved in some 'interesting work'. Add to that the fact that I worked in a sensitive area of the Home Office for a couple of years and came into contact with various people. That takes care of the British side.
My ex father-in-law was a big fish in the Polish communist party during the Soviet era, and so naturally the family had lots of connections. That explains the Polish side.
My wife, through her mother's side, comes from a military family. So there are naturally famiy members and friends who hold or have held senior ranks in the Russian and Soviet military. My wife's aunt is married to a senior official in the Armenian army...who has lots of 'interesting' connections.
So these claims are nothing extraordinary, and I'm sure that many members of the board have had far more contact with the intelligence services than I have.
