Commonsense. Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
Akbar Ahmed sounds like a reasonable and sensible chap, but then again so do these people; Home Page | Cordoba

Unfortunately those muslims who wish to express moderation and sensitivity end up being drowned out by extremists in both the Islamic and anti-Islam camps.

Also comment on stupid Americans. Presumably in the context you only mean white Americans, so that's ok then? Why not stupid Muislims or stupid blacks? Thought not. The double standards of some you twats is amazing.
You're quite angry about this, aren't you?

Do you want to repost when you've calmed down?

There is something to be said for all involved parties just taking a step back and reconsidering their positions before pushing ahead with either the mosque or the protests. But then, that would be 'reasonable' and wouldn't fit in to the 'shout out your opinion and be heard' culture that seems so prevalent right now.

This was probably going to go in Monday Links sometime, but this thread is more appropriate: "Hallowed Ground" - A few photos of stuff the same distance from the World Trade Center as the "Ground Zero Mosque".

"Look at the photos. This neighborhood is not hallowed. The people who live and work here are not obsessed with 9/11. The blocks around Ground Zero are like every other hard-working neighborhood in New York, where Muslims are just another thread of the city fabric.

"At this point the only argument against this project is fear, specifically fear of Muslims, and that’s a bigoted, cowardly and completely indefensible position."

Ok, the atrocities commited as part of 911 were in the name of Islam. Let us not forget that little point.

The Americans have built a huge embassy in Baghdad, so they don't seem so bothered about sensitivities to war crimes.
