If we damage our industry with power shortages or high electricity costs we will have to get more goods manufactured in less fuel efficient plants abroad, then shipped across the world adding transport fuel emissions. How will that help?

First of all we don't make the goods, we import them anyway (plasma tellies, cameras, PCs etc). The solution is for everyone to have fewer goods since to buy them, as a country, we are borrowing the money anyway. That's what a balance of payments deficit is. Although that's an economic not an ecological argument it works both ways.

The reason for the strange weather is quite simple....weather, i.e. a blocking system. Probably as a result of a rather unusual extended solar minimum.

You have to distinguish between climate and weather.
