Get a good rate, set your hours negotiate working from home.

I do a 4 hour commute every day, but that is compensated by the fact I come in early, go home early and work from home once a week.

I've been doing this for years and yes it's a pain but all my work comes from London, at the end of the day, I prefer my own bed rather than sitting bored in a premier inn every evening.

Though I keep telling myself it's only for another year and then I'm leaving blighty.

I've done some horrific weekly commutes in the past (London-Moscow being the worst).

I'm pretty reluctant to take anything outside of London these days, and certainly not anything outside the EU.

I know there are some jobs in Bristol & Southampton that I might be a good fit for, but I'd have to have spent a couple of months on the bench to even consider applying.

I earn somewhat less than I could if I worked in London. But I save lots of time and money by not commuting.

I've thought about pushing my career forward. But I CBA. Getting up every morning at 6 or 7 to catch a train into London, getting back each day at 6 or 7, knackered. No time to get anything done during the week. Just sleep and work and eat and repeat.

No thanks. And I like London!

How many of you would choose home over money?

            That depends.

If your house is paid for, or nearly paid for, then I think the local gig would win every time.

London isn't for everyone. If you don't hear it calling you that is because it doesn't want you.

It's a no-brainer really SallyAnne, not even worthy of a moments thought. Working from home, spend time with your partner, kids parents and friends rather than see you life flit by as you scrabble for more money. Money is a false God and can never bring you happiness or the lost years. Home it is.
Spending quality time with you loved ones is such a joy, until you cant afford that little pressie, that weekend away or afford to get the washing machine fixed. You get depressed as the bills start mounting up and the rows about money begin. Next thing, you are on the scrapheap, divorced, no house and drinking meths out of a brown paper bag. Its a no-brainer SallyAnne. London it is.

Live and work in London. And when you retire your London house will enable you to buy anywhere in the world.
But London is not for everyone - it deals harshly with the weak and soft.

SA, thought you were a bit of party girl? Sorry to hear London didn’t work out for you, but I had a ball when I was down there last year.

Had a gig down in SW London. Got nice BB 20 mins walk from work at 30p/n. Lots of cheap eats. Faves were a noodle bar aprox £12 for 2 courses and a beer and a little Italian that did a 3 course special at £11. Got to know regulars in local pubs and went out with workmates quite a lot in Surbiton and up west. Finished at lunch once a week and went up into London (20 mins) and did the galleries, museums etc without too much tourist crush. Mrs Gibbon came down a few times during the week and I stayed with her up in London, did short days whilst she went shopping and then out to shows etc.

Pity gig came to an end.
