Oh right. Are we going to go through all the films? I haven't seen Heat.

I have no problem with simple ideas and I have no problem with complicated ideas. What I'm complaining about here is that this is a really simple idea - you can share dreams with someone else (using some kind of drug they've conveniently invented), and if you're really sneaky you can find a way of giving them an idea which they think is their own. That could have been a lot of fun. No need for ridiculous car chases and gunfights and slow motion rotating explosions. It could have been an interesting story.

Instead, they decided to make it ridiculously complex and, in the end, pointless. Nothing really happens, does it? Everyone's nasty and scheming and willing to go along with the schemes of some awful corrupt billionaire (including the girl architecture student who seems to have no problem at all with diving straight into some massive corporate con trick just because it's kind of interesting).

The more I think about it (which I really need to stop doing) the more ridiculous the whole thing seems. I'm not talking about suspending disbelief - I can do that all day, no problem - I mean, it's just stupid as a story. And rubbish as a thriller.

But maybe other people should say what they loved about it? What is it that is giving everyone such a buzz?

      I haven't seen it.

The best corporate con trick film I've seen recently is the one with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Duplicity I think it was called.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Heat was a remake anyway so unoriginal from it's inception!

I saw Inception last Friday at the IMAX at Waterloo. Being a big fan of Chris Nolan's films, I had been looking forward to it for a long time. I absolutely loved it.

It has shot up to #3 on the all time top 250 films on IMDB

What did you absolutely love about it, out of interest?

n.b. "Everything" does not count as an answer.

I don't get this, by-the-way. A film which has only been out for a few days and which most people haven't even seen yet somehow gets to be the third "top film of all time"?? What kind of voting system are they using?

              Edit:

              Rank Rating Title Votes
              1. 9.1 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 502,170
              2. 9.1 The Godfather (1972) 399,766
              3. 9.1 Inception (2010) 52,050
              4. 9.0 The Godfather: Part II (1974) 237,457
              5. 8.9 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) 153,792
              6. 8.9 Pulp Fiction (1994) 405,981
              7. 8.9 Schindler's List (1993) 268,457
              8. 8.8 Toy Story 3 (2010) 43,710
              9. 8.8 12 Angry Men (1957) 114,009
              10. 8.8 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) 207,712

Hmm, so new films get a go right at the top as long as they don't have many votes and most of them are good.

Toy Story 3 deserves to be there though. Greatest trilogy of all time.

I loved the way it threw me into the deep end with the opening scenes (double dream) forcing me to try to work out what the flip was going on.

I loved the concept of how a foreign influence in a dream could trigger subconcious defence mechanisms, and how the more abstract things got the more hostile the environment.

I loved the complexity of the story, how it kept my mind busy trying to work out how all the layers of multiple simultaneous virtual realities were interacting with each other.

I didn't care that there was no explanation on how the dream machine or the sedative worked, or how unrealistic it seemed, it was the concept and how it was delivered that enthralled me.

Surely an artist is allowed repeated attempts to perfect his ideas without being accused of a lack of originality though?
