You said it - there is Tesco, Sainsbury, ASDA and Morrisons - note they are all pretty big, there is no ONE OF THEM who does it. This is not the case for Dixons - its only Dixons who have such monopoly on IT gears on high-street.
This is why IT manufacturers may have special SKU just for Dixons and everything else for everyone else, there is nobody else like Dixons - that's why they are a monopoly.
Tesco have stores in places where there are no competitors other than the local co-op spa or Mr Patel. This is one of the issues with the monopolies commission. Also with perishable goods you cannot wait 48 hours for delivery, so if anything Tesco is more guilty of being a monopoly than Dixons. Furthermore people need food, they dont need TVs, PCs or ipods.
Your arguments are flawed on all fronts AtW.
Firstly dixons is not a monopoly either to consumers or to suppliers
Secondly there is no evidence to support the view that the govt would regulate prices equitably or efficiently. have you heard of the internet?
Thirdly Your logic is entirely your subject view of how mobile people are in "shopping around" for the best price
Fourthly you completely fail to understand that people buy products for a variety of reasons, not always for the lowest prices.
Or is it that when you type "TVs Videos" into your SKA search engine the only thing that comes up are ladyboys shagging each other?

Why not? I am the consumer who ultimately pays money, there are laws designed to protect me from unfair competition and anti-monopolistic laws form essential part of that.
So you feel you should pay more to help give those poor poor suppliers more money???

There are no competitors to Dixons on high street, what does it tell you? That people don't need choice? Or perhaps that due to Dixons enjoying current monopolistic power they get competitive advantage due to having cheaper goods? You can't compete with them - lack of actual competitors (on high street retail) prove that beyond doubt, it is simply a matter of fact - and this is why it is the Govt's job to ensure this monopoly is either broken up or regulated until that market becomes competitive.
There is no need to regulate online retailrs - choice is big and prices are very close to each other - sure sign of competition present, there is no such thing in retail IT market where Dixons is a de facto monopoly.
Is there anything (except for strange searching and indexing sites knocked together in a garage that are not even a patch on Google ) that you don't think is a monopoly.
Oh and secondly Next sell clothes not PCs (Joke)
Go and get your coat

No - I will pay less if Dixons is demonopolised. This would result in manufacturers no longer cutting prices for Dixons only and ripping more from us, they will be selling at same price to them as well, this will allow manufacturers to reduce overall prices, thus give me cheaper goods.
Its a fool's mistake to think that just because he does not buy from Dixons he is not affected - every time you buy from elsewhere you pay more than you should have if it was not for Dixon's monopoly.

Where can I buy hard drive in retail? Or new video card? Or USB cable? Dixons/PC World are the ones.
If there was real competition then manufacturers would not have to create new SKU just for Dixons, do you understand that?
If it was not for the Govt then BT would have it way and this country would never have achieved broadband coverage that it has now.
I will concede BT to you. Have you ever heard of the internet? or do we ignore it just because it does not fit your argument. Or are we being told by you that the internet does not count? (when it clearly does)
ever heard of Maplins?
