Why do people who've had life handed to them on a plate (so far) feel resentment?

People like me ought to be rioting.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Probably because people like you think people like them have had life handed to them on a plate.

An average middle class kid has a far more privileged upbringing than someone born into a sink estate / chav background, both economically and in terms of the quality of parenting and education they are likely to receive, and opportunities to escape that sort of upbringing are fairly limited.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

I don't entirely agree that the opportunities to escape are really limited. Britain, as with the rest of northern Europe, provides free education to children and heavily subsidized education at a very high standard for adults. Adults can even get a very good degree, starting with a foundation course, on the OU, with little educational background. I think the trouble is more cultural and behavioural; if you grow up surrounded by people who look down on those who study hard, work hard and make a go of it, you're going to be under social pressure to conform to patterns of behaviour that are unlikely to lead to a happy and succesful life.

Once a chav told me I have a 'posh accent', and said 'you talk that way because you're rich'. I answered 'you're nearly right, but actually I'm rich because I talk that way'. Harsh, and perhaps a little bit Alan B'Stardish, but there's some truth to it.

I'm not overly optimistic about post-oil-age civilisation. It was a great party while it lasted though. Doomed, etc. Not long now.

When MY Party gets into power, opportunities to get INTO that sort of upbringing will be fecking limited. Starting off with neutering any teenage girl that gets pregnant without being either married OR having proof that the "father" will be footing the entire bill for the forthcoming sprogs' upbringing!

They are not. But when they are, fear not. They will be in touch by post regarding your Candidacy.
