Will it really take all night? I expect I'll stay up until it's known what will happen, maybe all night... but then I'm not working with my on-site client on Friday so I can be pretty flexible and work noon-9pm if I want.

For some reason there is usually a race in the north-east to be the first to declare the result so you should get the results from Sunderland before 11pm but you wouldn't normally expect to get a result for the election as a whole evident much before 5am the next day.

This time I think it will take much longer since the result will be closer than in recent years so you might end up hanging around waiting for the ballot box from some remote Scottish region to be counted before it is known which is the largest party in Parliament.

After that, you will get the political negotiations around forming a minority government which could take days so it could be fascinating to stay up and watch and also completely pointless.

There are twenty-two constituencies that aren't doing their counts on Thursday night, and one whose polling date has been pushed back to May 27th after the death of a candidate. If things are tight then it may not be worth staying up, as the final result won't be known until some time on Friday anyway.

I see that they have got the name of my old constituency wrong too. It is not Poplar and Lime House it is Poplar and Limehouse FFS. Who are these people?

Ooh.

I see from the candidates in my old constituency that George Galloway has decamped from neighbouring Bethnal Green and is standing in Poplar. He won't win but he will split the Labour vote and hand the seat over to the Conservatives as has happened in the local council elections.

I wish I had registered to vote now just so that I could have voted against him.
