Never dealt with them before. So far, they know nothing about it. Said it had never happened before.

Said they had tried to contact me all day, which is quite funny as my phone was on all day.

MF, go for payment in lieu of notice. You're a business FFS, don't let them get away with it.

If they don't pay, SUE THE FECKERS!

            MF,

If you are going to fight this.

"Unsatisfactory work" is not considered in law as a valid "gross misconduct".

It is only a "normal termination" fault. There is usually the expectation of a warning first, but that can probably be dispensed with for a contract role, though I did once work with someone who was given a warning, I guess the manager was CHA.

I did this once (told the manager that I needed Friday off the following week when we were discussing the option of "starting on Monday").

So on the Thursday, I just said happy weekend and left. On the next Monday I was called into his office and given a lecture about 'unscheduled' holidays! I reminded him that we had agreed it and he apologised.

But he hadn't actually noticed my absence himself, the Team Lead must have complained and I didn't go and explain it to him (I assumed the manager would do this). That relationship never recovered (so the manager must have forgotten this as well)!

I had exactly the same excuse used against me, but I had been there over 4 years. However, the letter from the agent mentioned nothing about gross misconduct and said something about mutual agreement. The strange thing was that I had only a month left on the contract.

The agent 'didnt know anything about it, sorry'.

I just made sure as many people as I could knew how Alexander Mann and Atos Origin behaved, and found another contract.

In future, im going to make sure I copy emails regarding holidays, performance etc.

P.S Name and shame. What did the agency have to say about it?
Cant believe that, the barstweards did exactly the same thing to me, Alexander Mann and Atos.
whats the lowest you can do this for?

                    before you do anything

Check your contract. Maybe they do not need to give any notice during the first week? Or something like 1 day notice the 1st week, 10 days notice thereafter?
Usually the notice is different during the first week of a contract

I have to say also, it is quite unusual to take a day off in your first week, unless agreed with client first at interview time. Don't know whether that's relevant here
                    Chico, what time is it?

I have tried to speak to the PM, but he said he was busy and would phone me back! You reckon?

Must have been my winning personality I suppose!
