Last thing we want is people using alternative means of transport. If people stop using their cars next winter will be even colder.

Petrol is a commodity high up there with food and water. It's a shame it's getting so expensive when there`s still is no decent alternative. Personally I may have to remove two of the spark plugs from my engine meaning I'll only have 4 in use, that should save fuel right?.

As for blockades at the refinery's, I think they either made that illegal or gave the police more powers to disperse anyone there.

Other than that, what other option does Joe Public have?
I have never found that spread in fuel costs you quote – usually a penny or so difference & It's hard with our conditioned British reserve to think of what to do - but all your energy prices are being manipulated by cartels with government connivance; the French would blockade something, other nations riot, but we do nothing
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Nor have I... It was sarcasm.

Exactly. Which makes hardly any difference in the cost of filling a 50L tank. So not worth going out of your way to find a "cheaper" alternative.

They all pay the same price ex-refinery so the only differential is the additives they use. That's why Shell/BP petrol is more expensive than at Tesco or Asda.

Apart from motorway service stations which have the monopoly on their 30 mile stretch and so can charge what they like

Fuel at motorway services and out in the sticks can be seriously expensive.

At 1.20/l that's going to cost me 72 quid to fill my Mondeo! I think it's about time the government looked at the 40p a mile thing also!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

            I preferred version 1!

'cept of course between red & normal diesel....but of course that would be illegal

Just because the government and oil companies are getting away with daylight robbery, doesn't mean we should break the law... 2 wrongs and all that

That's long overdue, but of course they wouldn't want to change that as it would mean less revenue

Filled mine up this morning @£1.25 per litre for V Power at my local Shell (about £70 for a tank) which will be gone in a couple of days. The BP 100m along the road was similarly priced as you would expect. I don't have much choice in the matter as I have a two hour commute each way in the car and buses/trains are not practical as they take far longer and get me nowhere near where I actually need to be.

Our petrol/diesel prices are among the lowest in Europe until VAT etc are added which makes them of the most expensive!

As for dwindling reserves in the North Sea thats a load of bull, there is enough there for at least 3 decades but will require increased investment from the oil majors.

Apparently our fuel costs have increased some 40% since crap labour came to power in the 90's. Just wait for the budget report and then the Truckers will be out in force again (not that it will do much good anyway)
