I think you should read a few more books. They broaden your mind and your ability to use the english language. Please don't tell me you're interpreting this in a religious context

If only you were as erudite as you wish you were.

obviously I am nowhere near as smart as you, who is, but I was taught that
sanctimonious means taking the moral high ground by making spurious assertions that no one will ever disagree with.
like 'I think poverty is bad'
          'we should nurture our children'
'millions of people dying of starvation is wrong'

NF said the opposite, he was saying things that no one else agreed with.

          he was being anti-sanctimonious

a good effort, but the longer definition is spot on.

think about Blair making all his sanctimonious claptrap statements
                now THAT was truly sanctimonious

I would give 500 knicker to charity if nick comes up to Glasgow and walks from the Easterhouse to Maryhill on a Saturday night.

The guy would be bricking it and his "i like the poor" tripe would be coming out his arse.

Well if it's anything like Bootle on a weekday, it would take a prime-time wazzock not to have brown adrenalin running down his leg once the snot starts flying

I used to teach kids from Easterhouse so I was known around the 'scheme', it wasn't a get out of jail card and you'd have to be suicidal to wander around such places voluntarily.

I grew up in a similar place and it wasn't much fun.

Be honest now, if you were walking anywhere at night alone and saw a group of guys in the distance coming your way you'd be slightly concerned, yes? Isn't it better to err on the side of caution? If that means making some sort of judgement or labelling then so be it.

I got fed up years ago rolling about the ground trying to gouge somebody's eyes out just because I went to a different school or supported a different team or <pick any excuse>, so I'd be happy to exercise my right to run like **** anytime. And I'd post about it here for the bones to be picked dry without getting all uptight about what the assorted arses on here might post.
