There was one eccentric, in Bootle, Merseyside. Nosmo King.
He was/is a local legend. With his bike load of plastic bags and No Smoking signs he has travelled the North West for years, I saw him in Southport once.

It is rumoured that he lost his wife to cancer and has since led a one man crusade to stop smoking in the North West. How far he travels I do not know but I have heard of sightings in Chester and Preston. He obviously is homeless as I know he sleeps under the Alt Bridge on the Formby by-pass. Others have seen him sleeping under the canal bridge near Bootle New Strand.
Tis a harmless quest, I wonder if he still lives, or if he has finally joined her.

A rather sad and poingnient tale there EO.

I think the death of a loved one is probably the cause of a lot of 'eccentric' behaviour. One simply looses one's anchor in the day-to-day reality.

My Dad became rather eccentric after my mother died. He started doing all the things that he always wanted to do, that she never allowed him to (or at least mightily disapproved of). However, his joy was diminished by the very fact that she wasn't there to share these things with him.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

There’s a chappy who drives around the north east of Holland with his car covered in 100 speed limit stickers and ‘100 is fast enough’ written all over it. He was on TV once, saying he feels the speed limit should be reduced from 120 to 100 km/h. He started his campaign after his daughter was killed in a road accident. He drives around at 95 km/h and would be harmless, but for the fact that he plays a sort of vigilante role, regularly cutting up other motorists to slow them down.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Judging by that criterion, Germany's is a far superior culture to ours.

PS Note to EO, BB and DP: eccentricity is not to be confused with stupidity
Germany was consider a superior culture by the Brits prior to WW1.

one of the best theories for the cause of WWI that I read was the 'official mind'
i.e. British resentment over German cultural superiority, and the shock of the boer war

how dare they be so fckng smart when we run the world

                  Oh. Thanks.

What did I do to deserve that apart from question your assumption - which you seem to think we should all accept as the definitive last word?

If anyone is a 'prat' around here, it's you, Threaded.

I cant provide a ref to the 'official mind' theory, but the idea is that every document that passed over a desk had a subliminal slant applied to it. an anti germanic slant.

The cumulative result was a strong anti german official stance, which made it easy to go to war.

thinking about it, its a sort of 'institutional racism 1900 -1913' with the squareheads being the target
