As Lucifer said. Same thing happened to me many years ago when I just passed my driving test.

Car insurance claims

I am not happy - buying equivalent car would cost 3500-4000 GBP, according to AutoTrader online, so clearly if they ask me anything above 3k then its fking unreasonable.Comment

It can happen you know. The cost of four new tyres for my car would be more than the value of the car. With old cars repairs invariably cost a large proportion of the value of the car. You are undoubtedbly being conned, but there's not much you can do about it short of threatening the guy if you don't want your insurers to get involved.Comment

The guy seems honest and I don't think its him who is conning me - he seems genuinly suprised himself about this crap, I don't want insurers to get involved for a reason that in case of a claim it would cost me at least 2k extra over 5 years, plus it would look very dodgy that I switched insurers, even though claim have not been made.
Perhaps if they say its going to cost 2k to fix it, with car costing 3500 it would make sense to offer buy him equivalent car, take his own off his hands and sell it for parts?Comment

Were you driving a VW Toureg on the M25 at the time??
Only... I was hit from the back at low speed a couple of months ago ...and talking from the other point of view...you would be surprised at the amount of damage caused to my car and me!Comment

The damage was barely visible on bumber and not visible on front of my car - it was not hit, it was more like push - my breaking was okay, but few centimiters short, the speed was literally 5 mph - I was stationary and he moved forward so I moved but he stopped suddenly.Originally posted by Phoenixand talking from the other point of view...you would be surprised at the amount of damage caused to my car and me!
I now expect them to quote me the worst case scenario for like 3 grand, which is really way above what I want to pay for this junk, perhaps will have to get insurers involved - but what really pisses me off is that similar car would cost 3500-4000, ffs, I really think now the solution would pay him money enough to buy similar car and then sell his for parts, surely it can fetch at least a grand!Comment

I am going to see quotes before making final decision, but all points to him being honest - current info is that only Audo would agree to do that job others simply refuse, I certainly would not pay without having written quote and I see him nothing to gain personally in this case.Originally posted by Biker BoyTry asking to see 3 independant quotes for the repair first.Comment
