Looks like an old transistor radio

      Sorry!

sigh, maybe it was a bad picture, it looks a lot better when placed underneath a decent lcd tv IMO (not my pic or setup but trying to show an example)

and the 1k is spent on upgrading my current media centre so end spec will be:

Intel Core i5 661 (graphics and processor combined)

Asus p7h55d-m evo m'board with usb3 and onboard full hd
western digital caviar green 1.5tb hard disk (for docs/tv recording etc.)
intel 80gb SSD for the OS
          Windows 7 based Media Center
          Logitech dinovo edge keyboard
          g skill ripjaw ddr3 16000 ram
2x120mm Noctua case fans (circa 25db) quiet and cool
Scythe Zipang 2 CPU fan to keep it silent but cool
2 x Hauppauge TV Tuner cards

the case fits perfectly in with my receiver (mine's in silver)
          and
          Kef iq series surround speakers

all in all a pretty state of the art setup I believe but I know I'll be put wrong, however, I'm open to changes as it's not all bought yet

I told gf chef of work extension last night and suggested we should look into a holiday in the summer, dropped in the idea of buying/building a new Home Theatre PC with the benefits that it'll be ultra quiet, show great pics for blu-rays and is in a nice Antec Fusion case so doesn't look like a pc and she can record tv on it as you can on the Media Center in Manchester, she asked how much, circa 1k, she said it sounds a great idea...

I was expecting the "1k on a computer!!!! do u really need it etc. etc." ceomments..

what's going on? what have I missed?
            Mr Chef, your discombobulation is quite normal and a sign that good sense resides within your instincts. When a woman agrees to you spending a large amount of money, there are three possible reasons;
            - she is selling you a service for which you are paying her, or
            - you are buying her a handbag, or
            - she realizes she can use this expense against you for the rest of your life, as in ‘if you hadn’t spent all that money on that silly sterevideodolbythingummy we’d be able to afford a proper wedding/decent retirement/child at private school/MPV’
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

I just hope you've put enough money aside to buy her a ring with a rock the size of a monkey's head!

the antec fusion official web page

I wanted a case that was:

                a) silver to match the reciever
                b) simple in looks i.e doesn't look like a pc or have a huge digital display like you'd find on a car stereo, i want to watch tv not watch an equaliser flashing away

not ring in sight yet, her brother's getting married this year and my sister next year so it'd just be rude to steal their thunder and go get engaged
