I haven't bought any sov's yet. All my gold is in BullionVault.
I stuck my sterling wonga into this (as I predicted the pound was going to die against the US dollar).

I've the prospect of phoning my bank and asking them to open one or more foreign currency accounts and facing the uncertainty in not knowing exactly how long that will take or when it will complete. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick I was able to move money this morning using them though. It only took 30 seconds or so to transfer cleared money into BullionVault and a further few seconds after that to have it notionally held in Gold in a vault in Geneva.

I wouldn't worry about the UK finances.
Gold is at an all time high in GBP and all Gordon has to do to pay off our mind blowingly humungous deficit is sell our gold reserves now at the peak.
Simples.
