You want to take a look at the Ceed from Kia. A very good car imo. The face lifted front on the whole Kia range make them even more appealing.

Oh sorry, you said reliable. Well, I've had a 166 and it wasn't bad at all really, except for the puddle in the rear foot well. Damn nice car.

They are - strange isn't it?

Consider a Toyota or other Jap equivalent - www.parkers.co.uk is very handy as it gives other cars to consider.

I'd also look at a baby 4x4 - our Rav4 is awesome on the motorway and has a massive luggage capacity.

At under a grand a pop if (when) it goes wrong you can chuck it away and buy another.

(ETA: I know, not that particular one)

                B: 3 year old V8 Vantage Aston

Both can be got for around the same price (£45K)

No matter how I look at it the Vantage calls...

Problem with the older japs is that there are no decent diesels on the market.

Unless you are doing 20K+ miles a year, the amount you save on a diesel versus a petrol is not that much.

2nd hand diesel cars cost more to buy.
Diesel is more expensive at the pumps.
Servicing a diesel costs more at a garage.

A 1.4 or 1.6L petrol car on a run will do about 35 MPG and diesel about 50 MPG.
