I think this is the problem. Booting a country out is nigh on impossible in the sort of timescales we're talking about.

The euro won't collapse. It will get harder for basket case eurozone countries to borrow money and the euro may weaken against other currencies but this will actually benefit Germany by making their exports more price competitive.

The sad thing is Britain and the German states got on well in the 19th Century. If it wasn't for that Kaiser Wilhelm history could have been so different.

It won't happen but imagine if Germany ditched the Euro for the old Deutchsmark. The Euro's would be worthless overnight.

It would be worth the chaos to see the look on the French face.
