Sweden?
lovely ladies, very nice countryside, socialist ideals country, you do pay tax but IMO you get what you pay for

I agree. There seems not to be so much work in Austria (well, it is a small country). Germany is attractive. Formerly high-tax, ISTM not so much to have cut its tax as to have been overtaken by the rest of Western Europe, especially the UK.Originally posted by doodab View PostGermany and Austria are nice as well.Step outside posh boyComment

Funnily enough I had thought of that too. I have a lady in my life, but I like the other sides of it.Originally posted by chef View PostSweden?

I suppose a personal factor about somewhere like Sweden with high tax but high State provision is this:
I am getting on.
I have neglected to have good retirement provision, or at least neglected to keep it in my own possession.
So much as I admire good pension plans, I'm not sure I can afford it: were I to live in a country for 10 years before retirement, presumably I'd pay large taxes for the rest of my working life, but only collect 1/4 of a pension. Which is only fair. But for me personally, I should probably look at lower taxes and lower provision, leaving more to save for my own retirement. Possiblt then looking at a low-cost country. Or is that not logical, or the subject of a whole other discussion?Step outside posh boyComment

If you get a job in Vienna, you can live across the border in Bratislava where a similar house to the one above would be much cheaper..."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment
