We should be encouraging these countries to improve economically so that they can afford to buy expensive UK produce!

Initially it just made a shift to "post-industrial" economy bull-tulip, so effects were not that pronounced to those educated types who could move up the ladder, but it is getting right to the end of this ladder and the fall is a long one: the UK plc put a noose on its neck and getting ready for a drop!
Have a nice day!

If slavery was reintroduced then staffing costs would fall even more.
If at anytime the slave owner had a surplus, they could be sold to those who had a deficit or euthanized and the remains used in a range of secondary products.
Whole new industries could be created producing customised slaves to match the duties required of them.
I don't know why it hasn't been thought of before. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

You seem to have it in for the UK public as whole who've done nothing wrong other than believe they were in an economically sound country when they bought the big house, BMW and 50" plasma.
Now they face a life of ruin and their kids will most probably have a whole lifetime of high tax and low prospects.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. Low prospects, they can change that if they want to.
Most will just whinge about how badly off they are now that x Gov are in and that x country are shipping over a billion ICTs a week.
