We filled up with petrol last night at home so as not to get ripped off today.

Up early, set off, got a split rear tyre. Unloaded the boot onto the hard shoulder and got out the spare and the jack. The jacking point is a steel box section; it is crushed! I couldn't get the jack in far enough to lift the car safely. So I had to call out the rescue people.

Then the useless Highways Agency plonkers came along and did nothing constructive other than point out we were not allowed back in the car and had to stand in the wind. And they kindly pointed out the camera pointing at us "So we'll know if you do". Pointless gits. Sack 'em all and save some tax money.

In all, 2 hours stood at the side of the motorway on -1C with a freezing wind. We were bitterly cold.

Oh, the shame of having someone change a wheel for me. :

So we set off and then the rumbling noise started. Either the transmission or the differential.

So we are now in a service station waiting for the tow lorry to take us to a garage for repairs.

So far, half a billing day wasted, and we're nearer ClientCo than home.

Filling up the car this weekend cost ~£60 Last time, 2 or 3 months ago, it was only ~£50.

ouch! it never rains etc. still, at least you have income now - imagine if this had happened two months ago. maybe it would be better to tow the car to a dealer and trade it.

I didn't need to get anywhere then! (And when I did, the Job Centre paid the fare).

Not for another few months at least. We are not yet back up to £0 !

It's damned expensive starting a new contract 100 miles away when you have no ready cash to begin with.

Fook, the petrol's gone up in Deutschland. Always used to be cheaper than Holland.

It varies plus I have to use 98 octane and then it depends on where I tank. If I tank at Shell or Aral then they only have 100 octane and you're talking around €1,55 a litre so I try to look for the smaller chains or independants who are much cheaper. Last week it was only €1,41. 95 octane is quite a bit cheaper
