Never a truer word spoken. Half the PM's Ive encountered are just there for the laugh and the power trip. They couldnt manage a pi$$ up in a brewery.

If he can terminate you as a routine matter because you don't do as he wants in this respect, then he is your boss.

If OTOH you really do just ignore it, your company's contract may be terminated, but he is someone who works for a customer, not your boss.

Like IR35, it depends not just on what you say but on what you do.

LOL. As Project Manager, we're not God. We're your God! Remember that. You get assigned to projects and a PM can just as quickly get you unassigned. So yes, work late especially if your lack of technical skills and chatting with colleagues has put the project behind, and try and help out. No project manager likes a 9-5'er, oh and have a can do attitude. Nothing worse than a lazy developer who says 'it can be done'

          well, grammar.

          Difference between 'God' and 'god'.

A PM gets what they pay for.

Most of them are knobs and couldn't manage the proverbial in a brewery.

            In my experience..

and yes, i DO realise MF is trolling...

              Developers are an unhappy lot.

Developers never want to be developers, they want to move up. They want to move across. They want to be Business Analysts, Technical Architects, Project Managers etc.

Who has ever heard of an old developer? Once you hit forty, if you're still developing then you just haven't developed as an individual and you're going to find yourself on the scrap heap pretty fast and posting on bulletin boards.

At least you are safe mate - doing some numbers in Excel does not count as developing.

Obvious comment: my development as an individual hasn't happened at the company's desk.

I've never worked for/with/against a PM that could get me unassigned. I've always worked for a more senior manager. The PM is just somebody that sits in the corner of meetings, or sometimes wanders over and says "how's it going?"
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

The incompetent ones do this every 5 minutes.
