WHS, a great film. The 'social problems' it deals with are the same the world over, your friend needs to lighten up a bit.Originally posted by sunnysan View Posthttp://www.amazon.com/Original-Frenc.../dp/B0002CTQYW
Le Diner des cons(The dinner for idiots)
Quite funny but I was remonstrated by one of my French friends who maintained that its use of stereotypes and making capital out of serious French social problems was condescending and offensive.
I enjoyed it, its not rude, no gratuitous violence or foul language.
Numbly tolerating the inequality as a way to achieve greater prosperity for all.Comment

Some of my favourites
I really like French Cinema:
Hors De Prix (Priceless)
Very stylish.
Le Diner Du Cons (Idiot's Dinner)
Very funny.
L'Appartment (The Apartment)
Very good (but complex) Thriller....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

Anything with Brigitte Lahaie in it gets my vote. The earlier stuff, before she became more, mainstream....

Bienvenue chez les ch'tis gets my vote to be at the top of the pile. I enjoyed le diner des cons but it’s not as good as Bienvenue chez les ch’tis.
Will you be getting them with subtitles in English for her, as le diner des cons subtitles are not great.
Some other ones you may like to consider (comedy):

Just remembered la vie en rose, it got a fair few awards (Oscars, BAFTA and Golden globes) and is going cheap at HMV. Picked up a copy for myself and the good lady but I have not as yet watched it.
