Had an email from a recruiter (permie) who said that many banks are getting ready for a big recruitment drive....starting mid January

This is it guys....the recovery starts tomorrow.

By the way if you want a permie job in a bank, now is the time, because most are sitting tight waiting for their bonus.
Economists are very very devided at the moment. Half think like you and half think like me.

Amusingly Roger Bootle in the Telegraph thinks that interest rates will stay where they are for 5 years. But that size of government debt is no worry.

I don't pay a lot of attention to Bootle. At the Telegraph a better read is Tom Stevenson, admittedly a more bullish kind of bloke, but I suppose that point of view suits my own agenda better. However, on balance, I think Stevenson is
is the more sensible hack out of those two.

It seems to me the only difference between economics and astrology is that astrology can claim a weak connection to being rooted in a science.

The only difference I can see is that Astrologists actually get it right some of the time, even if only for a certain amount of people.

            Economists can claim neither.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
