I'm sure John McDonnell will be forgoing the upcoming 29% increase in his MP's salary and giving it to "the poor" to set a shining example for us all. -
[QUOTE=DimPrawn]Fromt the BBC website regarding city bonuses:
I think it is ridiculous that such large bonuses should be paid to the so called bankers and financial world employees when there are millions around the world who are starving and going without medical help. And at home too. All those homeless and poverty stricken Britons living on the streets without any help from the rich who are getting richer and have all the money to spend on a shameless luxurious lifestyle while all the rest around them go without.

I wonder whether Joy Butler would be prepared to hand over 50% to the Government if she won the lottery. Somehow I really doubt it and she would have got the money for doing nothing - jealousy plain and simple

[QUOTE=John Galt]She probably would, that would be a normal rate of taxation in Germany, and indeed most of the civilised world, for a large income.Originally posted by DimPrawnFromt the BBC website regarding city bonuses:

It seems the remuneration is disproportionate to the effort expended.
In a world of finite resources it only natural people look with distain at gross imbalances.
Anyway, I'm off to restore my karma and ying & yang.Comment

The impulse to redistribute is quite widespread, what's interesting is where people draw the line as to who loses. It's usually always someone wealthier than themselves. I met a socialist in my first job in the UK and asked how he could justify owning more than one set of clothes and living in a house (as opposed to sleeping rough which as a young fit man he could easily have done) when everyday there are people in the world who are starving and could be saved (for a day) by a bowl or rice/porridge costing 5p (say.) His vanity in demanding more clothes and greed in demanding the comfort of a home were costing poor people their lives every single day! The selfish bastard!I think it is ridiculous that such large bonuses should be paid to the so called bankers and financial world employees when there are millions around the world who are starving and going without medical help.
(I put a similar argument to Chico once, saying that I thought Christianity required a similar level of self-denial, at least ideally if not in practise, but he didn't agree. I may be an atheist, but having a father whose passport said "Minister of Religion" under occupation I do claim to know what I'm talking about.)Last edited by IR35 Avoider; 14 December 2005, 13:02.Comment
