Its not what they need - they need fair terms for exports - no barriers/quotes and similar BS. I am generally very cool when it comes to the English hating the French, but looking at the kind of ridiculous subsidies that the French farmers get it certainly looks totally unacceptable to me. -
hang on... the French get subsidies for their farmers and we protest... but the Brits get a rebate to fill GB's public pension black hole and we think it's OK?
How many standards to you have?Chico, what time is it?Comment

protectionism
As Hayek says, all a country needs to develop is the rule of law, property ownership rights and access to free trade. The last thing a developing country needs is protectionism. If the country is poor and its labour is cheap, in a free trading environment what on earth would they need protecting from?
Some of you cannot seem to get your heads around is that protectionism is wrong and leads to inefficiency.
But not all is lost, in 30 years time the wealthy Chinese and Indians will be recruiting bus conductors from the EU and offshoring their IT systems to us. If you have just entered into IT the future is rosy.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

With respect Rebecca, the rebate is wrong but it is only a partial correction of a greater wrong.Originally posted by Rebecca Looshang on... the French get subsidies for their farmers and we protest... but the Brits get a rebate to fill GB's public pension black hole and we think it's OK?
How many standards to you have?
Example: even with the rebate, the UK is the second-biggest net contributor to the EU budget, a position and an extent which is out of proportion to the UK economy's position.
Example: were it not for the British rebate, then France, with the 4th or 5th largest economy in the world, would be a net receiver from the EU budget. That can't be right.Comment

Thats the whole point Becs, originally Fat Tony wanted to link a reduction in Englands payment to a reduction in subsidies paid to the frogs.Originally posted by Rebecca Looshang on... the French get subsidies for their farmers and we protest... but the Brits get a rebate to fill GB's public pension black hole and we think it's OK?

I mean, why should england reduce their subsidy if no one else is prepared to reduce their payments?
