Avatar a clue is it? I recall my father telling me when I was a 'wee boy' that the Scots were generous when it comes to hospitality, just not parting with cash.

Eg Come in my child, feast on my food and drink.

Visitor : Why thanks, can I also borrow a tenner?

Then you need to get control.

I take it that you lack the means to have proper housekeeping staff and your wife has to take on that role. Well, a sharp slap accompanied by the words, "Oi, woman. The Glenlivet is running out. Sort it or you'll get more than a slap" should solve the problem.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
