          My own personal favourites are:

          Watchmen Director's Cut
          Bladerunner
          12 Monkeys
          LOTR (although not strictly sci-fi)
          2001

          I also like:
          The Abyss
          Independence Day
          Armageddon

          For indie quirkiness:
          The Big Empty
          Repo Man

If V for Vendetta was allowed that would also be in my list.
...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

What, no mention of Cherry 2000???

Horny robot females that do all the housework? What more could the average geek ever want?

Totally agree, how they went from a dark menacing masterpiece (ESB) to 'Muppet's In Space' (ROTJ) I'll never know. George Lucas had 16 years to put that right before doing the same for the first/fourth, it got a little better for the rest of the hexology though.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
