      yep! you front them yourself generally, unless you can convince them to shell out.

        Nope, but the cost of living here is much lower than southern England. I stay in a reasonable hotel for e65 per night and can eat a very good 3 course meal with a few glasses of wine for 35 euros.

          I remember the Dutch have a more realistic attitude to hotel room pricing.

            Just don't stay in Amsterdam. Stay in Haarlem instead; 15 mins by train from the centre of Amsterdam, hotels and restaurants are half the price in any category, twice as good and not filled with British and Merkin druggies.

                If you are staying in town, I can recommend the "Banks Mansion" near/on Heerengracht (sp?).

                Especially If you like a drink - they have a free "maxi-bar" in every room and a sort of living room bar thing downstairs with freebies.
