        One throat to choke....

Engineer Billy PC-World won't turn up within 4 hrs on 25th December with a new 15k FC-AL disk and rebuild the mirror will he?

        SLA's.....

Also BT has been moving to Solaris LDOM's and Zones especially for integration and sandpit environments, and no boubt both Live's soon, but ur solution doesn't do that or any build testing or volume or performance ramping at all does it?

We buy SuperMicro servers - high quality stuff, hardly "PC World".

If you want you can always get 15k FC disks in them.

The naivety of some of these posts clearly shows why there has been an unending bashing of this project from within and without the IT community. If everyone understood the scale and complexity of the undertaking and shared the vision of what could be, then this discussion would not be about headline costs, but would instead focus on the healthcare of the nation and the injustice that scrapping the project would cause.

I completely agree that money has been wasted (IDX anyone!?) and things could have been managed better but the health of the nation should come first. Without a 21st century IT solution the NHS will not make it to the 22nd century...

You assertion that anything less than the NHS project spends is a PC world job is something close to AtW saying he can do the job for 10 million.

No, I was merely highlighting that with the SLA's and penalties the NHS can and do levy for downtime I'd want to be sure hardware will be replaced in a jiffy, and with Sun providing all the hardware/OS/apps there's no risk of the 'it's not us, contact them' nonsense.

Same for BNFL - it was all DEC/DEC/DEC - no time to be dicking around ringing XY and Z only to be told 'we'll get someone round when we can....'

Having said that the Sun Support Line has a record number of Press 1 for....options at the moment...... Still, the Polish lad on the end was nice.....
