In simple terms: in a gamble you lose everything and in semi gamble you lose only half.

maybe you mean a gamble that you are sure will pay off

I wish you well in your Falklands investment, and I really am reluctant to use the term 'Bonehead'
but anyone who coins the phrase 'semi-gamble', (and then can't even explain it) falls neatly into the category

This is the irony of the internet. It's purely something that can be backed up with fact. I have no idea where Falklands' oil prospects will end up. However, just like the spread betting, I can tell you know that I've put down what it took me two years to save as a permie on this 'semi-gamble'. You can look up my posts from a week ago and compare it with the market results. I've no idea whether or not this will work out, but I've got a fair chunk of my house deposit on this. Moreover, and in conjunction with a previous thread, there's a whole age group who has no chance of every owning a house because of the off the scale house price in inflation over the last decade.

              This is my punt.

Call me a newbie not worth consideration, but spread betting is so obviously a complete guess over my 'semi-gamble'. I'll report back at the end of February when I've either lost a shed load or be multiples up.

              Blimey I sound cross!

Forgot to add, semi-gamble is like semi-skimmed. It's a blend of both.

With a 'semi-review' this is a bit of a rant.

Thats a lot of money to put down on one "semi" gamble. Why not diversify the investment and spread the risk?

Am up 10% since 27th November on DES/RKH and 1% today on my double up. It's a bit more safe (but only a shade) than spread betting.
Those are not the only ones. There are dozens of oilies in AIM market
don't forget that these AIM companies can go tits up pretty soon.
GKP looks very promising atm, they are sitting on bilions of barrels of oil in iraq

                    Where you at DP?

I still have 2 trades in, sitting at about -£450 at the mo, I just hope its on the up... I've told myself if it goes back up and I don't end up in a loss i'll quit.

It started as a bit of fun, but I think i'm just too greedy and undisaplined for this stuff.

Half of me now wants to buy more as I'm thinking its got to be at the bottom now!!!...

We both need to be more planned and disciplined.
