Is it just me or does outsourcing a companies server hosting needs result in a world of pointless access request forms, SLA's and not much ever getting done as requested.

Oh I don't know, it does have its upsides. For sheer comedy value one of my clients has their hosting with a company that keeps the servers in the rather expansive cellar of a building built in the middle of a drained swamp.

Yes, they have pumps to keep the average water level down.

Unfortunately, they don't have enough pumps for when there's been heavy rainfall, like a few days ago.

A servers top of rack, B servers bottom.

"Hey threaded, we seem to be losing all the B servers..."

I'll change it for £10,000.

So would I! £12K is just the start with our outsourcer. For anything that involves using a CD you're looking at around the £90K mark. And if it involves any new technology then we have to pay for their training. But nobody cares because the taxpayer foots the bill here.
